Travel in Africa is not a walk in the park. Our itineraries regularly include travel to Mozambique, Namibia, back to Johannesburg onwards to Zamibia, the DRC and Tanzania. Flights are regularly delayed or cancelled and, complicating matters further, most of the time I am also not sure of my exact travel dates. Communication with airlines is limited whilst on these journeys. To have Ronél as a single point of contact to facilitate and amend flights on short notice is essential.
Demand for seats is high on certain routes. This makes it necessary to be waitlisted on one day while a confirmed seat is being held on another. Ronél does this at no extra cost. The uncertainty of my travel dates and destinations results in having quite a few unused tickets at any given time. Ronél keeps track of these and by utilizing them for later journeys, ensures that they are not forfeited, saving us money in the process. All my bookings are recorded against my frequent flyer number. My preferred seat and meal are always requested. She also takes care of our refunds and tracks the status thereof. She is our company’s travel manager.
A UK based colleague had to fly to Johannesburg on short notice. We contacted Ronél and the best option available at the time was a flight via Madrid at a cost of R17 000. She advised that the flights were full and suggested to move the travel dates in order to get a better priced option. This however was not possible due to previous commitments. What do you do when your daughter calls you from London, distressed because all flights have been grounded due to icy conditions? She was advised by the airline to book a new ticket on another airline and they would give her a refund for her unused ticket. Well, how do you do that with thousands of travelers in the same situation? I immediately called Ronél. Even though it was a Sunday, she straight away accessed her system and managed to book a seat on the next day’s flight on another airline. I was able to pay for the ticket using my credit card in South Africa, making the process seamless and much less stressful. Claire was here for Christmas while some of her friends were still stuck in London. The airline was of no assistance in aiding stranded passengers in time of crisis. Ronél further assisted us in using the originally purchased return leg of the ticket for a future journey, thus not losing any money in the process.
